AI in aviation is set to exceed $2,223 million in the next 5 years (1). This is because of the research and testing required to ensure that an AI system will work safely.

The primary focus to incorporate AI in the airline industry is through cloud-based aviation services such as Airbus' Skywise system. Large tech corporations have money in this sector. The biggest challenges to overcome are optimizing storage, retrieving data, and analyzing the data in these cloud based services.

Companies like IBM and Microsoft have a stake in this but current development is still in research phase.

The companies struggle to measure real outcomes as any testing is just virtual.
