Professional Ethics:

AI alone is not equipped at least in current development to fly without human pilots but overcomes certain problems of human pilots such as health conditions including managing stressful situations. Current AI provides better insights to pilots about potential threats, helping them make more informed decisions.

We have 2 examples of AI used:

  • Next gen black boxes are thus capable of providing better guidance to pilots by using logs to construct potentially dangerous scenarios to inform the pilot.

  • Air Traffic Control (ATC) communication is normally human to human but with automation it changes from machine to human. This removes scope for human induced errors (1).

Air Line Pilots Association International (ALPA) provides code of ethics for airline pilots. This includes several sections on safety, duty, professionalism etc. AI in airlines primarily focuses on the safety and duty aspects. Inclusion of current AI does not violate or disrupt the code. The main focus of the code of ethics is the safety of passengers and pilots (2).
